Earlier this month, a virtual press event was held to update the public about the campaign to put a “right to clean and healthy waters” in the Florida Constitution.
This ballot initiative was drafted and sponsored as a proposed constitutional amendment by the political committee FloridaRightToCleanWater.org. The full text of the proposed amendment can be found here.
The campaign had set a March 1 deadline to trigger Florida Supreme Court review by collecting about 223,000 signatures, but came up about 200,000 short. Unless the campaign is able to raise around $15 million to fund a paid petitioning effort, it will continue to be an all-volunteer effort.
At the virtual press event, 10 speakers from across the state discussed why they thought the amendment was a priority. A video of the event can be seen below.
