The restoration of the Florida Everglades has been plagued by delays and soaring costs, putting the state behind in efforts to address climate change.
The podcast Bright Lit Place, produced by South Florida public radio station WLRN, provided a closer look at the progress of Everglades restoration and what’s left to be done.
Now the podcast’s host, WLRN environmental reporter Jenny Staletovich, will be moderating a public event at Florida Atlantic University about these issues.
The panel discussion will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 6-7 p.m. at FAU’s University Theatre on its Boca Raton campus, followed by a reception. Panelists include:
- John Baldwin, interim director of FAU’s School of Environmental, Coastal, and Ocean Sustainability (ECOS)
- Cara Capp, senior Everglades program manager for the National Parks Conservation Association
- Curtis Osceola, chief of staff for the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida
- Michelle Petersen, director of FAU’s Environmental Science Program
The event is free and open to the public. For more information and to register for the event, click here.
