Celebrating STEM: The Visit Lauderdale Science Festival 

Presented by the Museum of Discovery and Science, the festival draws thousands of attendees to explore the wonders of science

The Visit Lauderdale Science Festival, organized by the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS), stands as a beacon of inspiration and education in South Florida. 

This annual event is a vibrant celebration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), drawing thousands of attendees to explore the wonders of science through engaging activities and thought-provoking presentations. The festival not only highlights the critical role of STEM in education and economic growth but also ignites curiosity and enthusiasm in young minds. 

The inaugural Visit Lauderdale Science Festival took place in 2023, marking a significant milestone for MODS and the community. As the only event of its kind in South Florida, the festival attracted more than 11,250 attendees in its first year, showcasing the region’s enthusiasm for science and innovation. This free event has quickly become a staple in the community, drawing visitors from across the state to partake in a day filled with educational and entertaining activities.

The next Visit Lauderdale Science Festival is scheduled for March 8, 2025. This eagerly anticipated event boasts a full-day schedule packed with a variety of activities designed to engage attendees of all ages. The festival’s offerings include: 

  • Hands-on Makerspace Workshops and Demonstrations: These interactive sessions provide attendees with the opportunity to create and experiment with various materials and technologies, fostering a hands-on learning experience. 
  • Live Theatrical Science Shows: Nationally recognized science presenters deliver captivating performances that blend entertainment with education, making complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting for all. 
  • Innovation Showcase: This segment features cutting-edge technological innovations from regional industries and universities, highlighting the latest advancements in STEM fields and offering a glimpse into the future of science and technology. 
  • Science Cafés: These in-depth presentations by guest speakers connect the community with professionals in various STEM fields, providing insights into current research and developments while encouraging dialogue and interaction. 
  • Free Science on Screen Film Festival: Held in the museum’s AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater, this film festival offers a selection of science-themed movies, enriching the festival experience with visually stunning and informative content. 
  • Build a Better World Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge: This competition invites young minds to present their innovative ideas for creating a better world, fostering entrepreneurship and critical thinking among the next generation of leaders. 

One of the festival’s highlights is the opportunity to interact with industry and university thought leaders who are at the forefront of research and development. These interactions provide attendees with valuable insights into the latest scientific discoveries and technological advancements, inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM fields and contribute to the community’s economic and educational growth.
