The Florida Chapter of the Sierra Club recently announced the recipients of its 2023 Chapter Awards, which include the St. Johns Riverkeeper, the city of Cape Canaveral’s chief resilience manager and several leaders in Sierra Club groups throughout the state.
The recipients include Nathan Crabbe, editor of The Invading Sea website. Crabbe received the Indigo Award, which goes to an individual who provides balanced reports of environmental issues in Florida.
The Invading Sea is a nonpartisan source of news, commentary and educational content about climate change and other environmental issues affecting Florida. The website shares opinion pieces on these issues with 27 newspapers across Florida.
Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Environmental Studies took over management of The Invading Sea last March, hiring Crabbe as its editor. He was previously opinion editor for the Gainesville Sun newspaper.
His local chapter, the Suwannee St. Johns Group, will be presenting the award at an event this March. Other chapters will be also presenting awards to recipients in their areas.
