A growing number of podcasts are exploring the consequences of climate change and possible solutions, several of which are focused on Florida. The Invading Sea is spotlighting these podcasts in an ongoing feature.

The CLEO Institute launched the “House On Fire” podcast in 2020 as a way of “raising awareness of the climate crisis and its effects on South Florida and the generation that will inherit a far less hospitable planet.” The youth-led podcast gets its name from a famous speech by climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Katrina Erwin and Glennys Navarrete currently host the podcast. Erwin is youth advocacy program manager for The CLEO Institute, co-chair of the Miami Climate Alliance’s “Resilient Miami” working group and a 2023 Aspen Future Climate Leader. Navarrete is The CLEO Institute’s associate program manager for schools and youth programs.

The podcast started its third season earlier this year. The first episode presented clips of people interviewed in previous seasons, including Miami Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Sunrise Movement Executive Director Varshini Prakash, eco rapper Hila the Killa and CNN climate correspondent Bill Weir.
